THIS IS WHAT AMERICA LOOKS LIKE....AND THESE ARE THE FUTURE LEADERS....
  • Of the 1 million gang members in America right now....Teenagers under the age of 18 make up 40%...that's 400,000....
  • 95% of them are males
What are the leading causes of teenagers joining gangs....
  • Low income
  • No parental/mentor/community involvement
  • Learning disabilities and emotional disorders: 60% - 78% of Incarcerated gang members have emotional and learning disabilities. This is the percent found by states that test all delinquents for special needs
  • School Failure and Truancy
  • No involvement in positive activities outside of school
  • Friends and peers who are delinquent
  • Early involvement in petty theft and behavioral disorders in grade school

Now the question is...what do you do?....and how can you help?...get involved in a community-based organization that has a pulse on the "TEEN SCENE" and figure out how you can change one teenagers life and then over the course of time...one turns into two...and two to four and watch the exponential growth of lives being change in history. This is where "PHI'LA" comes into play....we want to show the disconnected world, through our project,  that there is a problem with our teenagers. We cannot fully blame them for wanting to be loved, accepted, treated with respect and given a high self-regard. Which gangs will gladly do, but show them that they are loved by people who are successful and intrinsically motivated. If we don't do something NOW and stop blaming them....then these are the teens that will be leading your children as they get older. Our project is not the final answer, but a microcosm snap shot of the reality of what teens face on a daily basis and lack the coping skills of which can given by the leaders of today!!!! Next time you see a teenager doing something wrong...ask yourself...how could I have changed the course of their life???
